How to eat with the Seasons

If it's the middle of a hot and humid July, chances are you're not craving a hot bowl of soup. The same goes with ice cream during winter with a wind chill of 40 below.

Eating with the seasons can be confusing, especially when we have most food available year round in grocery stores.

Our bodies are quite smart. They naturally crave cooling and warming foods during the appropriate seasons.

It's much easier for me to eat a raw food type of diet in the summer. During the winter, I find it near impossible to crave a salad. I just can't get it down. Do I beat myself up? No. (well. not anymore!) I just eat other foods.

  • Check out The 3 Season Diet by John Douillard. It's an excellent quick and easy read. The last 3/4ths of the book is full of recipes for each season.
  • Eat locally. Go to Farmer's markets.
